New here, or coming back

You are welcome here.

If you are reading this, you have already done something hard: you looked. Coming to Gamblers Anonymous takes honesty and courage, and you do not have to do it alone.

An open door with morning light and a chair waiting beside it

Who is a newcomer?

Not a matter of time.

You may call yourself a newcomer if you:

  • Are coming to Gamblers Anonymous for the first time
  • Have recently begun attending meetings
  • Have returned after a relapse or a period away
  • Feel uncertain or new to recovery
  • Have a desire to stop gambling

It does not matter

  • How long you have gambledDoesn’t matter
  • How much money you have lostDoesn’t matter
  • How many times you have tried to stopDoesn’t matter
  • How long you have been attending meetingsDoesn’t matter

The only requirement for GA membership is a desire to stop gambling.

What to expect

Take what helps. Leave the rest.

  1. 01

    Attending meetings

Regular meetings are encouraged. Listening is often the first step toward understanding the program.

  2. 02

    An open mind

You will hear stories like yours and stories that are different. Look for the ways you are alike, not the ways you are different.

  3. 03

    Sharing

Sharing is voluntary. You are welcome to listen until you feel ready to speak.

  4. 04

    One day at a time

Nobody expects you to solve everything at once. Just today.

  5. 05

    Fellowship

Members support each other with their own experience. Asking for help is part of recovery.

The next meeting is this week.
